| Q | What Software Do I Need To Broadcast? |
| A |
Live365 Recommended Third Party
Broadcasting Software
While you can use our Studio365 Live software to stream your live feed, you can use other tools to send your stream to Live365's servers. The two programs we typically recommend are Shoutcast and SAM3. The Shoutcast plug-in works with the Winamp player and can be downloaded for free. If you are streaming your audio at multiple bitrates, the Shoutcast plug-in is ideal, since it can encode your audio at multiple bitrates. The SAM3 software is a more sophisticated and robust program that you can use to get a more professional sound. It provides mixing tools such as cross fading that you can use to create the sound you're looking for. This program does require an additional fee. There are other programs that you can use to stream your live audio such as Nicecast and Simplecast. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact support. |
| Q | What are the rules for a legal station? |
| A |
In accordance with the regulations set forth
in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, broadcasters need to make sure their stations comply with these regulations. Below is a partial list of the rules that broadcasters need to pay attention to. We have abbreviated these rules to include only those that likely would be relevant given the manner in which you are able to use the Live365 system. The relevant rules which you must carefully review are as follows: * Your program must not be part of an "interactive service." For your purposes, this means that you cannot perform sound recordings within one hour of a request by a listener or at a time designated by the listener. * In any three-hour period, you should not intentionally program more than three songs (and not more than two songs in a row) from the same recording; you should not intentionally program more than four songs (and not more than three songs in a row) from the same recording artist or anthology/box set. * Continuous looped programs may not be less than three hours long. * Rebroadcasts of programs may be performed at scheduled times as follows: o Programs of less than one-hour: no more than three times in a two-week period; o Programs longer than one hour: no more than four times in any two-week period. * You should not publish advance program guides or use other means to pre-announce when particular sound recordings will be played. * You should only broadcast sound recordings that are authorized for performance in the United States. * You should pass through (and not disable or remove) identification or technological protection information included in the sound recording (if any). |
| Q | What are the rules for THIS Station? |
| A |
1. Have fun! 2. No Station bashing of ANY kind. That includes any station you may have been a broadcaster for at any time. This will NOT be tolerated at all. Don't be that guy! 3. Be nice to our listeners... some day they may pay our bills! (Even if they request "Menudo") 4. If you can't broadcast one day, just drop me a note(or call me) as soon as you can. It's not a job, you aren't getting paid for it, but maybe someone would like to broadcast in your time slot. I encourage time off. I have been a broadcaster. I know what it's like to HAVE to do it every week. There are days when you just don't want to. Take a day just for YOU! 5. Respect that people have different opinions and even if you don't agree, that's OK. 6. No illegal activity promotion on air (drug use, murder, baby raping etc.-- Come on people this one is common sense but I have to put it in writing.) 7. No Racism, or Religion bashing. 8. Pimp Pimp Pimp. If you promote the show you are promoting the station. If you promote the station you are promoting your show, everyone wins. |
